A Little black Elan Named Joe

Yep here she is boyz another one!
Meet My Little black Ratsled Named Joe
i just cant believe i found this little Rotax sugar cup sled
its a 1982 elan twin with Mikuni carb setup !!
its has No spark though ,,well not yet
Got all the parts with it too!!!
seat windsheild ,,motor gaurd..
The guy i bought it from was a Big burly fellow who enjoyed smoking a pipefull of tobacco and who also enjoy a good shot of Whiskey once and while,,His name was joe and he hand built his log cabin which he lives in ,,He had a big grin and checkered Lumber jack shirt and his laugh echoed the walls of his Cabin like a chainsaw wide open,,..So We chin wagged for a while and had a shot of whiskey for the trail,,In the Little cabin was a old wood cook stove that he cooked up a few fresh pickerel fillets for our visit , After seagulling down the grub i built up the courage to ask him about the lil black elan in the back i spotted in the snowbaNK,,I said hey now Joe what are you doing there with that LIL old ELAWWWN in the back of the cabiN??
HE just smiled and said nuthin,,why? it dont run you know ,,and then he said I bought a Tundra A WHILE BACK now for haWLIN wood anyhow ,,i Will MAKE YOU A DEAL SON...
How bad do you want that old elan??? Well i said i wouldnt mind it ,,Well LETS have a Wrestlin match over it.. If you win you get the elan hows that sound? I Just sat there and has another swaLLOW of my whiskey,,
You see what i didnt know about old Joe was he was a mean drunk and liked to fight when he got drinkin..
I thought about it for second more and i said Joe
i dont wanna fight you JOE how about i just buy it off you instead? but to fight over it sheesh thats a bit much?,,

And considering Old Joe was built like a grizzly bear i did feel like getting mauled that night,,

ANYWAYS FOLKS The bottom line is this


TWO men fought that night in the cabin long and hard,,,
and one won the ELan and it wasnt pretty either,,
But sometimes you have to doo what you have doo,,And something are worth fightin for..
And thank the good lord for Cast iron frying pans and wooden chairs,.,!!

I had to break the chair over old joes back for him
to sign over the bill of saLE FOR THAT LIL BLACK ELAN i named JOE!

getting screamed at by the Old lady!! lololol

Well after abit of playing around i got it popping again..
had to swap out both cylinders & pistons and the heads
the crank seals were shot on the original motor and i didnt have any and was about to rub out and buy any either! And
thats why i got her CHEAP and FRANKLY i DONT MIND ONE BIT;D!! .. and good thing im A PACKRAT lol because i had another donar 247.3 twin rotAX bottom end to use,,,the top end was bad
the other pistons were shot cylinders scored up....but the bottom end the crank seemed to spin ok...
however i didnt really know how good the bottom end and points OR CRANK was REALLY,,
BUt before i ripped apart the other motor
i did a compression test,, in three pulls i was up to 130 on one side and 80 on the PTO side,,Right on good enough for me,, ;D lol
SO.... i TOOK THE GAMBLE FOLKS and put decent set of pistons and jugs i had on to the other block and crank,,.. . I cleaned the HELLO OUT OF THE points regaped em at .015 and also soaked the bottom end in diesel for a while to make sure it rolled nice and FLUSHED IT AGAIN AND AGAIN and again,,.. .,.OH YA
one head gasket was pooched so that explained the 80 compression so it was back to the other motor again i knew it had to have one good gasket left on it well one i could reuse / retorque down i figgured..

this lil ratsled sounds healthy again eh?>Ha not bad for old pistons and rings and Reused head gaskets and filed up points EH??? and for that thin even film of silicone to each base gaskets and to the intake manifold it works well again..

and this is with old Fuel to boot
wait till she gets her fuel system cleaned and then some new 40:1 mix in it and a inline fuel filter..

Oh ya the plugs i used are a old set of bosch plugs i cleaned up..
Man they work GOOD i would buy a CASE OF THEM if i could!

as for the air cleaner it didnt have one so i used a old piece of automotive manifold heat riser tubing it fits perfectly on the Mikuni
carb throat..!
