A Rusty elan body new metal?

Hi guys
I just found a 1971 elan it has the motor in it still its
not siezed the track & bogies are there but look near shot,,

The body looks like crap

Its full of rust looks almost like chunk of Swiss cheese,,

Has anyone here had much success on welding new metal on a frame before?

If so what type of welder and what size metal should be good to use for this old elan frame?

I Think a Mig welder is what you need jiggy,,
not 100% sure
But post a pic of that sled please....
sounds like interesting project
