Removing original Handle bar grips from a Elan?

HI there i have old elan and i want to try and remove the original hand grips from the handle bars any advice on how to do so?

I have did and tried about everything to get em off they just will budge!
I dont want to wreck them if possible???

PUT SOME HEAT ON THE METAL AND TWIST. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT YA CAN PUT COMPRESSED AIR ON ONE SIDE AND BLOCK THE HOLE ON THE OTHER GRIP AND IT WILL POP OFF. I HAVE NOT DONE THIS YET

I tryed a hair dryer it worked but it took along time..
i like the Compressed air trick that sounds slick!
