Hi board need help with my old sled! my old sled is puking gas it runs and all but not well!! Its Puking gas out from the tillotson carb and it just keeps dripping as it runs ! Why does it do this? I cleaned the carb and everything twice HeLP!!! It spits gas at me like angry viper~! Thanks sledpuke..  |

Did u try adjusting the high and low needles on yer carb?

Did u try adjusting the high and low needles on yer carb? Agreed, however part of the whole nostalgia is that no matter how dialed in it is it will still spit at you. (A thing of beauty) What sled are we talking about here? We want pics! |

Your best to check your inlet lever it sounds like its set a lil to high if your flooding
Let is know how u make out
Also clean your inlet needle and seat they can be real touchy

Good Good advise Skeedadler!
I also take inlet needle and seat right out of the tilly ,
Then i examine the tip of the needle/ needles for wear if its ringed i replace it with a new one...
All it takes is a micro spec of dirty or gunk or wear to make it not open and close proper and then it will flood gas out like crazy...
Also take note of the metering bar to make sure the bar that runs through is not all rough and pitted i use the finest steel wool on it till it shiny and new looking your can also run some of the finest steel wool on the tip of a small drill bit use the end side that is not the cutting end of course and clean that seat out,,
your on the track!
Next thing is to check your pop off pressure heres a tool you can make if you dont want one to buy onE!
I will be making a tillotson carb cleaning thread with links and vids very soon i feel it is
need by many to keep our old beast running tilly strong!

I cleaned up the needle and the seat and bent the meter lever its more flat now and its working like a champ!
