Hello all i just recently picked up a old 440 Olympique Skidoo , I cleaned the the tank and carb , It had good spark but then one cylinder lots spark after a short ride..It had lots of power still! So i asked around what could be the problem? Most people said that the points would be the problem and i have to clean and file them ,, So yes thats where im at now with this motor i have taken the points right out to clean them and file them abit, But now im not sure what to set them at when i put them back in the motor? I want to put this old sled back together before the snow melts and use it some more! Help please and thank you Mickey

Hi Ratmandoo! ok i would set them at 0.016 on your feeler gauge Most old Rotax sled motors will be between 0.014 - 0.018 some old timers i talked to use to use the paper thin cover of a match book for a gauge reference ha..which works to..Thats about 0.020 But if you got a feeler gauge use that! Best setting i found is 0.016 but one thing to remember your timing is Dead on! Hopefully you never took off the mag plate that the points and stators are on or moved it any?... Cause that will advance or slow down your timing!.. if you need to take off the plate to get at your mag side crank seal then make some good marks with a punch on the plate and the block so you know where its set at for later.. hope this helps ya out..
