I was having the same problem because the levers wear into the clutch and bind up. I've taken them apart and filed things back smooth and it fixes it for a little while.
Good luck!

Ya ok i will look at it again Is their a way to lube the levers and the weights or just leave them alone? thanks In my opinion DRY IS BETTER, but with that said you can spray them down real good with PB blaster or WD40 and work them real good by hand, then spray them down real good with brake cleaner to dry it back out before putting it back together. Hope that helps!

If pressure lever type clutch: Check if the pressure levers have worn grooves into the slots of the sliding half. If so replace the sliding half or you can carefully weld and file smooth/level. Check the end of the pressure levers if worn pointy. They should be round and can be carefully (and equally) filed to make round. Pressure lever pivots (where they bolt to the governor cup) are to be oiled. The main shaft, slots in sliding half, and ends of pressure levers should be lubed(sparingly) with ski-doo clutch lube. If you don't have ski-doo clutch lube use the best quality grease you can get,the tackier the better. The clutch should be lubed at least once per season, more often if you ride a lot or don't use ski-doo clutch lube. Best of luck.

I got some really old Motomaster grease from the 70-80s that is so sticky and gooey the top layer is kinda hard i bet it would work excellent for skidoo clutches .. hey Old Sled Nut do you have any pics of a worn clutch to show elandumplins?

My friends twin cylinder 250 elan when he trys to take off it has a bit of thud/slash bang then it takes off ! maybe its worn too? When they are worn as in the pics the pressure levers don't move smoothly and will cause a "high rev-up" before engagement. When the clutch grabs you need to be hanging on! Something like a horse leaping from take off. The type of clutch in the pic was used up until around 1975 when they switched to a roller type clutch.
