Hello there icefishin101
the best line i like to use for pike is the heaviest tip up line i can find at least 30lbs- 50lbs Black braided by brand Masons line
why such a heavy line for the tip ups?
Well reason i find it works excellent is less tangles way less time untangling it after you catch a pike. and if you get a lunker of a pike on you know your covered when fighting it out.. also doesnt cut your hands in the battles..
Cons: of heavy the line
when your done with the heavy line you should dry it out after your done using it ...
simply put it on your homes heater vent ov er night good to go..
the line im talking about it looks like black cord string its made by masons brand
i suspose any of the the really heavy lines out on the market will work as long as they look thick on the spool like string.,,
also use a long good qualty leader to the heavy braided line..
even though its 30 plus pound line northern pike seem to still are able to cut it with thier razor sharp teeth,,,
Panfish Trout and Walleyeice fishing line
Now for panfish trout walleye and perch and for not on the tip ups but on the just your icefishign rod i would use no more than 8lb micro ice line by berkley for a good general line.. for small trout pan fish 4 lbs will work excellent alot lighter easyier to see the bites with thinner line... and susposely doesnt freeze up but seen alot that do..its normal but a ice line seem thinner than normal fishing line of the same weight...
hope this helps you out
Jiggy
