hey, the pop can be diagnosed like this-- Lean mixture,or spark at the wrong time look at the spark plugs, is there a color difference left to right? check the web for proper spark plug insulator coloring. I'll keep looking here as you go! Spark at the wrong time is caused by bad condenser or dirty points . a bad spark plug can cause popping as well.. pull off the points lead at the coil to kill one cylinder at a time to isolate the problem to eft or right cylinder let me know... gary Failure is not an option!

One time long ago i had a old everest the thing worked like a swiss watch she never missed a beat,, a friend conviced me to change the plugs even though it ran well... Long story short if it aint broke dont fix it DRIVE IT ended up after tampering and changing the plugs the plug wire got damaged,,some how...i guess old and brittle...Took forever to figgure it out.. So ya if it aint broke dont fix it Hows yor gas is it old ? Old stale fuel can reek trouble on a fine running two stroke machine.. My old ford burns up any old left over gas i have pretty good ,, I always mix up fresh at the begining of every sled season..and drain out the old stuff and it goes right into the old ford ,,she can drink it!

i would lean towards bad fuel or your points may need a cleaning or a bit of filing!

ook when does it pop like when you open the throttle real quick if so that would mean its lean on the carb and if it does when you rev it up could be abad condensor if it was bad points they usually dont eaven fire at all.
you can do this disconect one cyl see if it starts on one cylinder if it does disconect the other and reconnect the one you pulled off an e twin should run on one cylinder
ook you could have a bad ignition coil i doubt it as you usually wouldnt get it started
also to check and see if its a bad condensor either find a condensor for a automobile. some where for a distributor and then attach it right at the coil.
i have a skidoo tnt 440 1977 f/c that wasa bit to get timed i tried forever ended up adding a remote cap on it as it had 2 brand new condensors and points say chineese it also had a bad jug gasket on the pto side i paid a wopping 40 bucks for it with a busted hhoood needless to say it has 950 miles on it i may dump a 640 in it im thinking of making it for a tow truck for my rat sleds just incase i break some thing going to make a hitch with a ball and use a tow ba with chain looped through the ski's works well to tow them with my trike
