THE GHOST ELAN..



Well picked up another one folkz yep another ratsled elan..

THIS ONE WAS TO FAR BEYOND REPAIR!

Think its a 71 or 72 but im not even sure

but i did notice the handle bars where Chrome..

however im sad to say it was rusted so bad

i could not even use the tunnel!

I generally almost 90 percent of the time can make the sled run again not matter what shape..

and keep em how i find em original as possible., but not this time,,,,

This one was worse than swiss cheese!

So anyyways i started to take the old elan apart completely to save the good parts for another project or when i need a apart ect...

The Motor looked decent someone cleaned it previously and added nice new lines and line tubing protectors,,..

Also i noticed the carb had newer Shiney Brass HI and low needleS ,,,

So i took apart to see if the previous owner had put a carb kit in it and YEPpers it did!

ANOTHER SCORE!



Ok back to the point so i took that motor out and the hood was mint but FADED A very pale yellowish white..

The windsheild was a nice vintage yellow felt vintage i like that!...



So of course i had another donar elan body waiting to pop the engine hood on to.ect...

So i dont like having parts laying around not being used,, So i began buiding a elan..

Got it back together & looks not bad, So RIGHT ON now i got another elan RIGHT ON

Will it run??

Pulled it over nope nothing sprayed a lil gas in carb pulled it over

It stumbled then died ,, Noticed when pulling it over it was easier than normal..LOW COMP...

So the compression is down im figguring by pull,,.,. anyways

pulled it again and i watched the carb its spraying and spittin on the seat pretty heavy

Thats to much! Its flooding like MAD!

So i pull the plug pull it over to dry it out ..put the plug back in try it again

it stumbles then floods out again!

The carb is flooding it out! Take the carb off pull it apart again look at the inlet needle level looks abit high

so i gently bend it down a hair....

Figgureing its to high and its keeping the needle open causing the flooding.,,,

put it back on the motor pull it over same dam thing!

Flooding gas spitting like crazy..Ok one more time...pull the carb take the inlet needle right out and notice the

lil bar which lever moves on is corroded! AH HA! so go to find my junked parts carbs that i keep in a pail in the back of my shed,,

Find a old tilly pull one apart and look at the bar,,take it out looks rough too so i steel wooled it clean and smooth pop it into the carb from the elan. SlaP IT BACK ON THe MOTOR!

gO IN FOR coffee while drinking my coffee my dog starts barking and looking out the window Growling !!..

I look out the window and see nothing,,I go outside and this elan i have been working on is sitting there idling perfectly!

hAS THIS EVER HAPPEND TO YOU?

Did the motor some how spark and start from built up magnetism in the coils?

Why i know no one else was around is the fRESH SNOW NO OTHER TRACKS than mine and my dog!

SO anyways im like whoa am im losing my mind did i start it and not remember??



OR IS THIS A GHOST ELAN???

Maybe Your dog Started it he likes to go for a skidoo rides too u know?
He probly got sick of seeing you tinkering with it and not
throwing the ball for him instead..
HA! Whats next sled and where did you get your new ratsled elan?

Ha ya jiggy my old coon dawg "HARLEY" the old bugger now when i think about it...

he sure has been eyeing up the old Elans lately more often than normal

maybe he decided to show me how its done? a lil jealous id say,,

How could he though?

But you know just looking at this old elan gives me the CREEPS something about and because of its history

...The fellow i bought it from said he bought it from a old trappers wife

and she said her husband old trapper john died on his trapline they found em slumped over on his elan

with a wiskey bottle frozen in his hands ...He died from a massive Heart attack...

Poor old trapper John guess he didnt have the strength to pull it over to make it to town!

And That motor I just put in was OLD trapper johns motor..

So who know maybe he stoped by and finally started it one last time to say good bye?...

Anyways i have feeling his spirit Now lives on,,,

And hopefully not in house or in my shed lol

Ha Sled you sure come across some cool odd ball old sleds with interesting history!

GHOSTS ARE NOT USUALLY THAT NICE.
but i can tell you this much if the "pecora's" {aka witches in spanish" are afraid of them you usually will get along with em as long as you are in the same boat.
so watch where you point that elan .them witches maynot be able to get out of the way fast enough!
infact a pecora {actual last name of em too} liked snowmobiles
here in pa when he finally bought a rup he broke the damm flywheel bolt on that free air kholer.it was siezed and he was in a hurry . and was for sale forever
his daughter actually bought one for him to ride.
and she would sometimes get mad at me for rubbing her behind as it would irritate her broom rash.. nothing like pinching a piece of candy..{was her name}
remember be care full where you pint it and let me ride it i will point it for you .. and mount a chaingun on its hull is there room?
