A THREE INCH PERCH!
Went to a Local ice fishing Derby yesterday just for the heck of it..
I was mostly fishing fer Northern Pike on a tip-up Smelt combo.
THE Day was going really slow with lots of snow!
The morning was no sun at all a misery out there really!
Till around noon it cleared up and Finally the SUN CAME OUT
It gave me some hope and lil warmth!
..Then shortly after the fish started biting had a few good perch / bait thief Bites..
and Lost a few minnows
But i also had the old tip up locked and loaded just in case a big pike might swim by ..
Anyways earlier that morning i told a friend that i fish with alot
about the tourney
he said he was in and would meet me there...
So We could fish the ice derby together ect..
Got to the lake at about 9am to get set up early and to find the spot where i wanted to fish,,
The spot i picked was the spot i generally set up my old Ice shack at and
i normally catch a quite few fish in that area ...
So there i was dragging my Make shift ice sleighs through waste high snow with all the gear out to the fishing spot!
THIS THOUGHT CAME TO ME BUT BUT A LIL LATE LOL
WHY THE HELL DONT I HAVE ONE OF MY MANY RATSLED/ SKIDOOs
WITH Me TODAY and sleigh?
How a lil elan skidoo or any ratsled would have made things alot better today
I know better for next time!
About 10:20AM i see my buddys truck racing across the ice trying to find me lol
Finally he found me but he had to walk through some Purty deep snow b
ut he made it to our spot!
i even drilled a few holes for him to help him out cause he was running a lil late.
So back to the story
So my friend sets up and starts fishing he puts on a nice sized live minnow on a yellow jig head
and drops it down the hole and with in 30 secs
Budda BING he nails a tiny three inch perch!
So i was like take it in man take it in weigh it in!
he said no way im not taking that in
i wont get prize for that its just a waste of time..
So i kept at him to bring it in!
lol finally he did!
as my friend was gone i kept fishin then i glanced over at my tip up
and the flag was up!
So i walked over to it could the wind set it off?
Nope!!! it was spooling line out fast SO IT MEANT FISH ON!
So i gave it about 15 seconds and set the hook it had some decent weight on the other end!
Right on Pulled it out
It was about a 2 & half foot pike..
So by that time my friend was walking back and screaming you got one man RIGHT ON!
So it was my turn
I Put the snake in the bucket and rushed over to the weigh in shack!
i asked how many fish were caught so far and whats the biggest fish so far?,
The guys at weigh in said not many caught yet and its already 1pm !
And that a 76 cm pike was the biggest caught so far!
So i figured i was in good standings not first but at least 3rd i hoped..
So i quickly Jumped in the truck and raced back to our fishing spot..
Not many fish after that a few bites here and there ect.
So 3 o'clock rolls around the end of the derby..
So we head back to the stage where the prizes are given
and heres the results
Only 35 pike caught 25 perch and hand full of few walleye..
OK heres the kicker!
I didnt win a thing for my 2.5 foot pike!!!
but get a load of this!
MY FRIEND TAKES home a small trophy AND $50 BUCKS!!!
FOR HIS THREE IN PERCH!@
HA i swear who would have thought???
HIS THREE IN PERCH WON in the Smallest fish category! lololol

sometime i swear if i didnt have bad luck i wouldnt have any luck at all
