Im wondering which motor would be the best for doing a bit of racing? with out doing any serious mods?
im thinking of doing a elan motor swap...Basically i want to maKE my little elan 250 faster ... Dont want to kill it by putting a huge motor in it.. Just want to crack on the throttle and feel some power...

i guess i would say a 377 ROTAX out of a Safari Its a quite common motor and cheap to fix! however you would have to upgrade the chain case in your sled abit or try and find double elan chain and sprockets...

With any of the engines listed you will need to change the gearing and the elan axles are thiner that some of the other sleds so I would change that also.
I think of the engines you listed the 277 will make the most power, but may not meet the rules at some tracks. The 292 is next for power but are harder to find and are costly. The best bang for the buck is the 335 and can be used at most tracks. The 299 is not much of a power gain over the 250 elan single.

I would go with the 377 and if possible look into a 503 it has way more power than all those lil single bangers but thats just me..

jiggy not to be a stick in the mud here or anything but the 377 is a twin so i guess if he went that route,, it would limit him in any single vintage race he wanted to enter.. I would go with what oldsledz said...277 or the 335 rotax
But not saying a 377 rotax is not a bullet proof motor too!

So the 335 is the ticket? What sled did they come out of and how and much is a reasonable price to pay for this engine?
